The Rights of Children in Islam

In Islam, children also have rights. They also enjoy status of respect and love in islamic society just like their elders. In Islamic society there is no difference between girls and boys, they are both treated the same way. Parents and their elders are required to treat their children the same way. Despite of clear take of Islam on treating children equally, still, in some regions of the world, girls are not treated the same way as boys.

In pre-islamic arab, it was a pagan ritual to kill the baby girls. Pagan Arabs used to bury their daughters alive and they used to feel so much shame if a girl was born in their home. In Indian subcontinent, this ritual still prevails. In fact, with the advancement of technology, if the gender of child is identified as female in her mother's womb, mother either chooses to abort herself or she is forced to drop the child because in paganism, girls are not liked and they are considered a burden.

Anyway, when Islam lightened up Arabia, killing of daughters was strictly prohibited and such an act was loathed.

Children have many rights in Islam, not just one or two, they are listed below in order of their importance.

1: Bringing up

the first and foremost rights children have in islam, is their bringing up. Islam is very strict about it. Children are a huge responsibility and not just a toy with which one can play and then throw away. Children should be brought up in a proper islamic life style where they could learn being a good Muslim. If they are not brought up in accordance with islam then parents would be sharing their burden of sins along with all the sins their children committed because of their negligence in their parental duty. It is mentioned in a sahih hadith as below;

Allahs Apostle , Sallalahu Alaihi wa Sallam, also Said: Every one of you ( people) is a shepherd . And every one is responsible for whatever falls under his responsibility . A man is like a shepherd of his own family , and he is responsible for them This Hadith is reported by both Bukhari and Muslim.

If children are good muslims as are their children then they all will join each other in jannah, as promised by ALLAH swt Himself.

And those who believe and whose families follow them in faith , to them shall We join their families : Nor shall We deprive them ( of the fruit) of aught of their works : (Yet) is each individual in pledge for his deeds. 25:21

2: basic necessities

Not only their bringing up but also their clothing and feeding is a responsibility that lies to parents. As already said, children are not a toy to play with, but there are a huge responsibility. They cannot live on their own, nor can they survive. They also need advice in all walks of life. They should not be left unfed, or underfed. Nor should they be clothed like beggars. A sad reality of today's world is that people kill their own children because of the excuse that they cannot feed them. In west, a mom was recently reported convicted of killing her son of hunger. She did not feed him for five days and he died at the age of five. This kind of attitude is highly disliked in Islam. Those parents who do not care for their children, they will be asked on the day of judgement about this very strictly.

3: Equality

As discussed earlier, children should be treated equally, they should not be treated unjustly.  Both girls and boys are gift from ALLAH swt. Children ensure linage and family continuation. As for treating them equally, there is a hadith which explains it very well.

It is narrated by Abubaker , Radhi Allahu Anhu , who said that Allahs Apostle , Sallalahu Alaihi wa Sallam, was informed by one of his companions , al-Numan bin Basheer , who said: O prophet of Allah ! I have granted a servant to one of my children ( asking him to testify for that gift) , But Allahs Apostle , Sallalahu Alaihi wa Sallam, asked him : Did you grant the same to each and every child of yours ? When Allahs Apostle ,Sallalahu Alaihi wa Sallam was informed negatively about that , he said Fear Allah , the Almighty, and be fair and just to all of your children . Seek the testimony of another person , other than me. I will not testify to an act of injustice. This Hadith is reported by both Bukhari and Muslim .

Thus, children should be treated with respect , with love and with equality. Our beloved prophet Muhammad pbuh is an excellent example in this regard.

The Islamic Way of Wedding

Wedding is the legalized way of getting a companion for life time. In Islam, marriage is one of the most liked acts because it helps keep away from impermissible relationships and acts. There is a proper code for conducting marriage ceremony in Islam unlike other religions. In Islam, marriage is neither expensive nor extravagant event. Rather, it is a simple full of joys and blessings events.

There are certain things that are a must for Islamic way of wedding/marriage, as listed below;

1: Permission of marriage

Without permission, marriage cannot happen. In Islam, a man does not require permission from his parents or relatives for marriage except for special special circumstances. While, a female requires permission of her wali otherwise she cannot get married, and if she does, her marriage will be null and void. But this must not be taken the only way out, if she her wali forces her for marriage then she can refer to Islamic law for this.

2: Clothing

Unlike the modern day fashion show like marriages, Islam puts restrictions on clothes as well. Just like any other day, the code of pardah is must. Both bride and groom should observe pardah and wear modest cloths and guard their dignity. They should not give it up to be groom or bride.

3: Nikah

For Nikkah, Islam puts the condition of witnesses. Witnesses are required to witness the marriage for future use in case of disputes or divorce. And then, only a rightful person can bind the couple in nikkah since it is an act of combining to people into a legalized relationship.

4: Feast

Unlike the modern day marriage feasts that start from a week earlier, Islamic marriage has only one feast, and that is the feast of walimah. On the next day of marriage, this feast is given. This is sunnah.

5: Functions

There are no other functions as mehndi, or dance parties as is done now a days. These are hindu ceremonies and they have a linking to their religion. Anything which symbolizes other religions is not permissible in islam, therefore such events cannot be celebrated as part of marriage.

6: Dowry

It is not Islamic to ask for dowry from girl's parents or guardians as it has no link with Islam. Rather it is the groom's duty to pay his bride the money which is called mehr, ( dowry) before the marriage. This is a must.

Islam appreciates simple and easy marriage. There is no difficulty in deen so there should not be created any difficulty in the permissible acts in deen.

Now If we see now a days specially In Subcontinent Muslims have made Marriage a really complicated and expensive thing following the footsteps of other religions and cultures. This has created problems for poor people. We should try to make marriage easy and Zina difficult.

Dr. Abbas Khan: Inna Lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji'un

Inna Lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji'un. This is probably one of the most tragic things that I have ever had the misfortune to read. May Allah reward this brother in the hearafter for his good intentions and noble desire to help people and give his family patience to deal with such cruelty and tragic loss. Ameen.

British doctor Abbas Khan has been "in effect murdered" by the Syrian authorities just days before his expected release from jail, Foreign Office Minister Hugh Robertson said.
He said the death of the 32-year-old orthopaedic surgeon from south London was "at best extremely suspicious".
Mr Khan was arrested last year in Aleppo where he was helping civilians.
Syria's Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad said Mr Khan committed suicide using his pyjamas to hang himself.
He said the results of an autopsy proved this, and Mr Khan's body would be released to his family so they could conduct their own inquiry.
One of Mr Khan's brothers, Shahnawaz Khan, said it was "a lie" and "pure fiction" that his brother committed suicide as he had written to his family saying he was looking forward to coming home and spending Christmas with them.

Concept Of God In Islam

Every religion has a supreme figure called God,  worthy of worship and reverence. Islamic concept of God is totally different from all other religions. Islam is a monotheistic religion that is, there is only one God, ALLAH swt, the supreme, the most high and worthy of worship. No matter how many monotheistic religions are out there other than Islam, they do not believe in God and His oneness in the same way as Islam does.

The base of Islam is tawheed, i.e. oneness of ALLAH. There is no one beside Him who could be given the same status, otherwise it would be shirk and shirk is biggest sin which will not be pardoned. On many places in glorious Quran, ALLAH swt mentioned to us that we must believe in His oneness in order to be good muslims. There are numerous verses in Quran that also state about those nations who did not consider Him the one, or gave Him due respect or prescribed partners to Him. Prophet Muhammad pbuh said,

"O Mu'adh! Do you know what Allah's Right upon His slaves is?" I said, "Allah and His Apostle know best." The Prophet said, "To worship Him (Allah) Alone and to join none in worship with Him (Allah). Do you know what their right upon Him is?" I replied, "Allah and His Apostle know best." The Prophet said, "Not to punish them (if they do so)." (Sahih Bukhari)

This hadith tells us that the right of ALLAH swt upon us is to believe in Him as the only God and to not prescribe any of His Godly characteristics to others like some Jews an Christianity. And if, a person believes in tawheed without any doubt, then ALLAH swt says that He will not punish him. It means that if someone's base is right, he has more chances to stand straight and strong.

The word tawheed is derived from arabic word wahhada / yuwahhidu which means to make something one. It means to strongly and totally believing in something to be one. According to the scholars, tawheed is further divided into three categories:

1. Tawheed Ar-Ruboobiyyah  (Oneness of Allahs Lordship)

As mentioned in Glorious Quran 35:3

Is there are creator other than Allaah that provides you with sustenance from the heavens and earth? There is nothing deserving of worship besides Him alone.

2. Tawheed Al-Uloohiyyah  (Oneness of Allahs sole right to all worship)

As mentioned in Glorious Quran 5:72

Indeed, whoever makes Shirk (associating partners in worship)  with Allaah, then Allaah has forbidden Paradise for him, his destination is the Fire, and there will never be any helper for the transgressors.

3.  Tawheed Al-Asmaa was-Sifaat  (Oneness of Allahs names and attributes)

Al-Quran 7:54

Indeed, your Lord is Allaah, Who created the heavens and earth in six days and then Istawaa  over the throne.

Therefore, saying that ALLAH is my lord is not enough. His right to be worshipped must also be believed in and also on His attributes. If any of these is not beleieved in than it would be shirk, and sin which will not be pardoned.

Al-Quran 5:72

Indeed, whoever makes Shirk  (associating partners in worship) with Allaah, then Allaah has forbidden Paradise for him, his destination is the Fire, and there will never be any helper for the transgressors.

I Hope the Concept of God In Islam is now clear in your mind.

No dearth of standard literary magazines in Urdu: Dozens of monthlies, periodicals published in India

These are just a few Urdu magazines lying on my study table.

Among them, the four literary magazines include 'Shair' published from Mumbai, Rang-o-Bu from Hyderabad, Kitabnuma from Delhi, Abjad from Araria (Bihar) and Bebak from Malegaon.

Also, visible are [non-literary] weekly Gawah and Span. In fact, for someone interested in literature, these are wonderful times in India.

Right now, there are at least, 30 standard literary Urdu magazines. I am not talking about the non-literary magazines i.e. social, political, women's digests or other periodicals.

I often hear people complaining about lack of magazines or fewer readers. The fact is that if you are interested, if you buy magazines, if you have a circle where people read, then you will have ample magazines and periodicals to satiate your literary thirst.

But, if you aren't interested in reading, you will repeat he same old lines, 'where are the magazines, who reads these days?'.

There are unique magazines like one that fits in your palm, and another which is too big that you need both hands to hold it.

Now take a look at the other photo that shows another group of 'adabi' magazines.

This has magazines like Imkan, which is published from Lucknow, Takmil [Mumbai], Zehn-e-Jadid [Delhi], Sabras [Hyderabad].

All these are magazines of high standard and are well-known across the Urdu speakers in India and also in Pakistan.

In fact, I haven't talked about the main and most popular literary magazines in the language as yet.

They are Ajkal, Aiwan-e-Urdu, Kitabnuma, Naya Daur, Urdu Dunia, Naya Waraq, Esbat, Sabaq-e-Urdu, Aamad, Intesab et al.

The third photograph shows magazines that are equally important. Terhiri-e-Nau, Tarseel and Insha [Kolkata].

And I haven't mentioned the names of half of the literary magazines even now.

There are dozens of Urdu magazines published from Delhi, Bihar, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh (UP), Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, even Gujarat and Haryana.

The scene in Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka and Orissa is also quite encouraging.

Also, the Urdu Academies in most states publish their own magazines too.

Mind you, I am talking about just literary magazines. Compared to many other languages in India, the situation is much better in Urdu.

Doesn't the Urdu publishing scene rocks? Surely, it does. There is no question of any pessimism at all.

Prerequisites for Establishing Khilafah

Khilafah is the islamic system of governance which is the only system given by ALLAH and approved by ALLAH. No other system is islamic no matter how much benefits it presents. Just like any other system, khilafah also needs some pre-requisites. Just like any other system, khilafah cannot be established over night. This might sound rebellious to some but this is true.

Let us just look at the beginning of the system of khilafah.

Prophet Muhammad pbuh spent all his life to preach islam. He made himself living example of excellent character so that those who could object otherwise, could see the practice of all the rules and laws of islam. When beloved prophet pbuh was bestowed prophethood, he pbuh ws living in a society which was rich in culture and progressive economically. The tribe of beloved prophet Muhammad pbuh was the chief tribe so mainly, in the political issues his tribe was given importance and weight. In such an established society, starting something new was virtually impossible, but Muhammad pbuh made it possible and world saw it. What he (pbuh) actually did to achieve this virtually impossible goal? He (pbuh) had no force to back him but his family name and few loyal and loving relatives. Surely, this was far from enough to change the very foundations of an established society. He (pbuh) worked with a strategy which was workable. The taks was tough but His (pbuh) wisdom made it a supper win for him.

1: Allah swt bestowed prophethood on beloved prophet Muhammad pbuh was he was forty years old. Before his (pbuh) prophethood, he (pbuh) still was a well known man, for his (pbuh) character and qualities. Therefore, the first thing in establishing khilafa is the need of strong character of the people who want to establish khilafah. In a characterless community, no one will ever find the need of change or would appreciate if a change is proposed.

2: Prophet Muhammad pbuh remained humble and patient when he preached. He (Pbuh) was beaten and mistreated but He (pbuh) never talked back or retaliated in the same manner. Therefore, second thing is patience. Nothing can be achieved with arrogance but it is patience with which even wars can be won.

3: Prophet Muhammad pbuh preached with strong will and never thought of quitting no matter how many difficulties he faced. He (pbuh) never took a step back, rather He (pbuh) stood fast and proved to be a real leader at all times. Therefore, strong will and real leadership qualities are required for khilafah not just debates and talk shows.

4: Prophet Muhammad pbuh never quit preaching even when He (pbuh) got huge success. Which leads us to yet another important finding that achievement of goal is not success, rather sticking to the goal till the last is the essence of a real success.

5: After the departure of Muhammad pbuh, His (pbuh) companions did the same, they got all their lessons from quran and sunnah. Instead of fighting, they refered to what ALLAH and His prophet Muhammad pbuh has given them and so they succeeded. This takes us to the finding that, establishment of a system is not a one man's job, rather it should be taken to next level and should be kept alive by collective efforts. One man simply dose his job, the followers keep it alive.

Therefore, loud slogans, long talks, books and seminars, they all cannot make even a difference of a shred if the society we are living in, is not prepared for establishment of khilafah. Continuous striving for this task is the requirement. Selflessness and honesty is the need.
